Love at First Fight
Once upon a time, there was a Boy and Girl of teen-age. A mutual friend of Boy and Girl was a scheming Instigator who purposed to keep Boy and Girl apart for reasons unknown. In order to accomplish this, Instigator carefully manipulated Boy and Girl. Each day, Instigator told Boy that Girl said such-and-such about him. Likewise, Instigator told Girl that Boy said this-and-that about her.
Thus it was love at first fight ~ Boy and Girl loved to antagonize one another. Instigator had deliberately planted seeds of contempt in their respective hearts, successfully driving a wedge between them, despite the fact that they’d never even had a conversation with one another.
Some months later, Providence intervened and Instigator’s father accepted a job in another state. The moving truck carried Instigator far, far away, never to provoke abusive insults between Boy and Girl again. Sadly, Boy and Girl continued to reap what had been sown.
Ironically, Girl found Boy captivating. She was completely smitten by his overwhelming tall-dark-and-handsome good-looks, and his decidedly masculine air. She found his mannerisms beguiling, and she simply couldn’t take her eyes ~ or her mind ~ off him. She regretted the mutual hostility they shared and wished for a way to make amends.
One fine day, Girl discussed the seemingly hopeless situation with her mother. Mother
encouraged Girl to approach Boy, state that she desired to be friends, and vow never to speak unkindly to him again. Mother also instructed Girl to remain true to her promise, even if Boy chose not to reciprocate. Girl briefly pondered Mother’s advice and decided to implement it without hesitation.
The very next day, Girl approached Boy and amiably expressed to him that she would like to be friends. She vowed that she would no longer call him names or engage in hateful verbal exchanges from that day forward. At first, Boy did not trust Girl’s proclamation and therefore continued to utter insults, but over time he began to see her sincerity and change of heart. When eventually Boy and Girl began communicating in a more civil manner, they scrutinized the cause of their initial disdain for one another, and ultimately discerned Instigator’s self-seeking ploy to thwart the possibility of a friendship between them. As a result of this revelation, harmony blossomed where once only animosity grew.
Thanks to Providence, Mother’s advice, and two changed hearts, the friendship between Boy and Girl deepened. They may have begun walking a crooked path, but Divine Intervention diverted their course. What the Enemy determined to divide and conquer, the Lord desired to join and unite. Try as he might, Satan was unable to keep Boy and Girl apart, for God Omnipotent will always accomplish His Purposes no matter what ~ or who ~ attempts to interfere.
A few years later, Boy and Girl stood before the Lord and exchanged vows in Holy Matrimony. What began as love-at-first-fight had been Supernaturally redirected in an astonishing reversal of destinies. Today, Boy and Girl have been happily thriving together in marital union for more than 30 years! {Incidentally, if you’re curious about the identities of Boy and Girl in this story, it’s Bobby and me.}
